Dutch PHP TestFest - A Big Success

In May, I helped organize the Dutch PHP TestFest in my position as board member of the Dutch PHP User Group. This dutch event, which was sponsored by Ibuildings, was part of the global PHP TestFest initiative, which aims to get a higher test coverage for the PHP language and with that stabilize the language even more - something that will benefit all users of PHP. Back in May, we already deemed our event a big success with 10 attendees, a great presentation by Sebastian Bergmann and a huge number of tests written. But it turns out to be an even bigger success...

In the recent TestFest wrap-up, it was announced that a total of 158 tests were written and added to the PHP tests as part of the TestFest. 39 of those were written by the attendees of the dutch PHP TestFest event, a result that all attendees can be proud of.

But that is not all. Dutch PHP Usergroup board member and co-initiator of the phpBelgium initiative Felix de Vliegher was given commit rights to the PHP repository thanks to his number of tests and the quality of those.

And to top it all off, 4 attendees of the dutch TestFest have won one of the 10 popular elePHPants that Nexen provided for a raffle. These winners include Ibuildings employee Marc Veldman and yours truly.

It was great to work on writing tests that actually test the PHP language itself instead of the code you write, and great to contribute to the language and with that support the big PHP community that we are all part of.

Thanks to IBuildings and Sebastian it was a great day. Although i didn't write to much tests.

If it is up to me, we do it again next year for sure. There was some talk earlier about doing another one later in the year, but I'm not sure if those were just ideas or serious plans.
